Within the 2026 Individual Partnership Cooperation Programme between the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Azerbaijan and NATO, a course on “Communication, Information Systems and Cyber Operations” was conducted in Baku by the Mobile Training Team of NATO Allied Land Command Headquarters in Izmir, Türkiye.

On January 22, a memorial event organized by the Azerbaijan Ministry of Defense, was held to mark the 116th anniversary of the birth of the outstanding military commander, twice Hero of the Soviet Union, Tank Troops Guards Major General Hazi Aslanov.

Within the visit to Qatar, First Deputy Minister of Defense – Chief of the General Staff of the Azerbaijan Army Colonel General Karim Valiyev held meetings with the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Defence Affairs, His Excellency Sheikh Saoud bin Abdulrahman bin Hassan bin Ali Al Thani, and the Chief of Staff of the Qatar Armed Forces, Lieutenant General Jassim bin Mohammed Al Mannai.

In accordance with the plan approved by the Minister of Defense, a series of events were organized in the Azerbaijan Army on the occasion of 20 January – National Mourning Day.

A joint action plan for 2026 focused on expanding cooperation between the Ministry of Defense and the State Committee on Affairs with Religious Associations of the Republic of Azerbaijan was signed.

The First Deputy Minister of Defense – Chief of the General Staff of the Azerbaijan Army, Colonel General Karim Valiyev, and the delegation led by him are visiting Qatar to participate in the Doha International Maritime Defence Exhibition and Conference (DIMDEX) organized and hosted by the Qatar Armed Forces from 19 to 22 January 2026.

The Minister of Defense of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Colonel General Zakir Hasanov and other high-ranking officials of the Ministry visited the Alley of Shehids on the eve of 20 January - National Mourning Day.

In accordance with 2026 training plan, the opening ceremony of the kettlebell lifting championship was held in the Azerbaijan Army.

The Ministry of Defense and the Office of the Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) of the Republic of Azerbaijan signed a joint action plan for 2026 on the topic “Work done by the Ombudsman institution for the protection of servicemen’s rights”, as well as regarding the study of the state of human rights protection.

Minister of Defense Zakir Hasanov reported to the President and Commander-in-Chief.The head of state was informed that the primary objective of establishing this center is to ensure the specialized training of special forces units across diverse terrains, topographies, and weather conditions.
