AFANDIYEV ANVAR ZAKARIYYA OGLU
DEPUTY MINISTER OF DEFENSE –
COMMANDER OF THE LAND FORCES
Lieutenant General Afandiyev Anvar Zakariyya was born on November 18, 1965 in Gashgachay village of the Gakh region.
In 1987, he graduated from the Baku Higher Military Command School.
Starting from 1987, he served in the USSR Armed Forces as a motorized rifle platoon commander, motorized rifle company commander, and deputy chief of staff of a motorized rifle battalion.
From 1992 to 1998, he served in the Armed Forces of the Republic of Azerbaijan as a commander of motorized rifle battalion, chief of staff, assistant to the chief of operational subunit of the military unit, deputy chief of staff of the military unit, deputy regiment commander, deputy brigade commander, chief of staff of the military unit.
From 1998 to 1999 he studied at the War College of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Azerbaijan, and from 1999 to 2000 at the Turkish Military Academy.
Since 2000, he has served in various positions in military units, formations and Army Corps of the Azerbaijan Army, as well as in special military-educational institutions.
He participated in combat operations for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
He has received numerous awards and medals for his meritorious service. He was awarded with the Medal "For the Motherland" by Presidential Decree dated 15.12.2020, the Medal "For the liberation of Lachin" by Presidential Decree dated 24.06.2021, the Medal "For the liberation of Kalbajar" by Presidential Decree dated 24.06.2021, the Medal "For the liberation of Gubadli" by Presidential Decree dated 24.06.2021.
He was appointed as the Chief of the Combat Training Department of the Main Department of Combat Training and Military Education by Presidential Decree, dated 13.08.2015.
He has been appointed as the Deputy Minister of Defense - Commander of the Land Forces by Presidential Decree, dated 23.07.2021.
He is married and has two children.
