COLONEL GENERAL
HASANOV ZAKIR ASGAR OGLU
MINISTER OF DEFENSE OF THE REPUBLIC OF AZERBAIJAN
Colonel General Hasanov Zakir Asgar oglu was born on June 6, 1959 in Astara region.
He graduated from the Military Lyceum named after Jamshid Nakchivanski in 1976.
In 1980, he graduated from the Baku Higher Combined Arms Command School, and from that year to 1985, he served in the ranks of the Soviet Army stationed in Germany.
From 1985 to 1993, he continued serving in the Siberian Military District.
In 1986-1987, he studied the academic management courses at the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the USSR.
In 1993-2003, he served in the Border Troops of the Ministry of National Security of the Republic of Azerbaijan. By Order № 1130 of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan dated 17.01.2003, was appointed as a Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs – the Commander of Internal Troops, promoted to the rank of Major General by Decree № 869 of the President dated May 17, 2003, and to the special rank of Lieutenant General by Order № 802 of the President dated May 6, 2005.
He participated in military operations for Karabakh, including the Horadiz operation.
He has repeatedly been awarded with various awards and medals for the proper performance of his official duties. According to the relevant order of the Minister of National Security of Azerbaijan dated 15.12.1998, he was awarded with the Medal for “Distinguished Service in Defending the State Borders; Medal for “Distinguished Military Service” by Presidential Decree dated 16.08.2002; “Azerbaijan Flag” Order by Presidential Decree № 298 dated 30.06.2004, the Medal for “Distinguished Service for Motherland” by Presidential Decree dated 11.03.2008, the “Flag of Azerbaijan” Order by Presidential Decree dated 19.04.2016, the “Shohrat” Order (Glory) by Presidential Decree dated 05.06.2019 and the “Zafar” Order (Victory) by Presidential Decree dated 09.12.2020, the "Karabakh" Order by Presidential Decree dated 07.11.2023.
On October 22, 2013, he was appointed the position of Minister of Defense of the Republic of Azerbaijan and was given the military rank of Colonel General.
He is married and has three children.
