In accordance with the protocol signed between the Armed Forces of Azerbaijan and Türkiye on April 5, 2000, according to the Order of the Minister of Defense of the Republic of Azerbaijan dated February 20, 2001, related to the implementation of the NATO training system in the Azerbaijan Armed Forces, on March 26, 2001 the Training and Educational Center of the Azerbaijan Army has started operating on the basis of officer staff improvement, warrant officer training and reserve officer training courses. The Training and Educational Center is an additional educational institution that carries out personnel training in the directions and specialties required for the Azerbaijan Army and ensures the conduct of military-scientific work. Additional education ensures the improvement of personnel potential, adaptation of military personnel to constantly changing and updated service conditions. The following courses operate at the Training and Educational Center of the Azerbaijan Army:
– Officer Training Courses are additional education conducted in accordance with the requirements of the Azerbaijani Army in order to improve the professional level and quality of service of officers of all levels and categories, the formation and development of professional skills, the acquisition of more modern professional abilities;
– Reserve Officer Training Courses are additional education that provides training of officers in the relevant specialties in order to create an officer reserve. Successful graduates of the course are awarded the military rank of "lieutenant" by order of the Minister of Defense;
– Warrant officer training courses are provided in a specialty that provides training for personnel to serve in appropriate command and special positions. Successful graduates of the course are awarded the rank of " Warrant officer”;
- Non-commissioned officers training courses are given in a specialty that provides personnel training to serve in the relevant command and specialist positions. Successful graduates of the course are awarded the rank of "junior sergeant".
During the combat operations of the Second Karabakh War, the officers and warrant officers of the Training and Educational Center of the Azerbaijan Army also took part, of which 21 servicemen, having received injuries of various degrees, became ghazis. More than 500 servicemen of the Training and Educational Center were awarded orders and medals for their courage.   
In order to improve the activities of special educational institutions, by the Decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Mr. Ilham Aliyev, dated March 5, 2022, No. 1626, the Training and Educational Center of the Azerbaijan Army was transferred to the subordination of the National Defense University.
