The Military Police Department of the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Azerbaijan was established by the order of the Minister of Defense dated April 10, 1992. 
Monitoring discipline in military units, ensuring compliance with the rules of conduct by military personnel, maintaining law and order at troops’ deployment areas, and ensuring the safe movement of military convoys are among the main activities of the Military Police.
Military police squad serves day-and-night at stationary and mobile checkpoints in human settlements and along the military transport routes, conduct pass control, as well as ensure the implementation of the daily routine by servicemen during service and combat duty.
During the 44-day Patriotic War, anti-terror and other operations the personnel of the Military Police rendered significant services in organizing commandant service in the liberated territories, as well as in protecting strategic roads and important facilities.
During both the combat operations and in the post-conflict period in the territories liberated from occupation, the Military Police fulfilled tasks on organizing commandant and patrol services, promptly securing key strategic facilities as territories were liberated, establishing commandant posts, and handing over weapons and equipment left behind by Armenian army units to the relevant authorities.
Moreover, dogs specially trained in a Cynological center functioning under the Military Police Department are involved in mine detection activities, guard duties and other service-related activities.
