On 21 May the Defence Minister Colonel General Zakir Hasanov has met with Anna Fotyga, Chairman of Defence and Security Subcommittee of the European Parliament and former Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Poland.
During the meeting the Defence Minister Hasanov has discussed the recent incidents and current status along the line of confrontation and drawn the attention of the guest to Armenian Armed Forces' provocations as well as to the facts of their shelling Azerbaijan civilians and settlements from heavy weapons and using ammunitions prohibited by international conventions.
The Defence Minister also reiterated that Azerbaijan's territories, recognized by international community and European structures, have been remaining occupied by Armenia more than 20 years and as a result of that more than million citizens have become refugees and internally displaced people and negotiations process has not been progressive.
"Armenia's aggressive policy is the most dangerous threat to large-scale economic projects and regional cooperation in the South Caucuses. The international organizations and community must increase their efforts towards the just settlement of Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and ensure the territorial integrity of our nation" the Defence Minister emphasized.
The guest has mentioned the importance of peaceful settlement of Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, but in the meantime particularly noted that Poland would always support the territorial integrity of its friends and allies. A.Fotyga has expressed her sincere gratitude to Azerbaijan for its contribution to peacekeeping operations and competence and professionalism that Azerbaijan demonstrated in Afghanistan mission. She has also highly assessed the efforts of Azerbaijan in combatting the terrorism.
The guest has mentioned that Azerbaijan has been attaching a great importance to ensuring security and stability in the South Caucuses region, which is very significant from European energy security point of view, and particularly emphasized that Azerbaijan is a serious and reliable partner.
Later all questions of the guest have been answered.
