Azerbaijan's Defense Minister, Colonel General Zakir Hasanov met with the delegation led by the US Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Joseph Dunford on February 16.
After welcoming the guests, Minister of Defence, noted the successful development of military relations between the two countries. Minister spoke about the military cooperation between Azerbaijan and the United States, in particular activity of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces within the NATO programs, as well as the contribution of Azerbaijan in NATO-led non-combat "Resolute Support" mission carried out in Afghanistan.
Referring to the military-political situation in the region, Colonel General Z.Hasanov emphasized the importance of resolving the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict within the norms of international law.
J.Dunford in turn, stressed that he is aware of the successful reforms implemented by the President of Azerbaijan, Supreme Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev in the Armed Forces and highly appreciated the participation of our country in the fight against terrorism, including the high level of professionalism of Azerbaijani peacekeepers in Afghanistan
Caspian security issues, non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, expansion of bilateral military relations between the two countries, as well as training and military education issues were discussed at the meeting of mutual interest.
Being the first time in our country, the guest expressed his deep gratitude to the leadership of Azerbaijan for assistance in holding a bilateral meeting with the Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces in Baku.
