On May 25, paying an official visit to the Kingdom of Spain, the Defence Minister of Azerbaijan Republic, Colonel General Zakir Hasanov met with his Spanish colleague Pedro Morenes Alvaro de Eulate.
An official welcoming ceremony for Minister of Defence of Azerbaijan was held in the Ministry of Defence of Spain. A guard of honor was lined up in the honor of the Azerbaijani Defence Minister Colonel General Zakir Hasanov in a square decorated with national flags of the two countries. National anthems of Azerbaijan and Spain were played.
Following the official welcoming ceremony, defence ministers of the two countries have held a one-on-one meeting. Following their private talk, defence ministers have held an expanded meeting.
Mentioning the importance of mutual visits at various levels in the expansion of relations between the two countries, the Minister of Defence of Spain stressed that such visits should be intensified.
The Spanish minister said that the visit of Azerbaijani Defence Minister to Spain provides a good opportunity to discuss prospects of fruitful relations, including cooperation in the military sphere between the two countries. The Minister expressed the hope that it will serve for the development of a common cause.
Colonel General Z.Hasanov provided detailed information on the military and political situation in the region, the latest developments taking place at the frontline, as well as our country's relations with the European and Euro-Atlantic structures.
"We attach special importance to expansion of relations between Azerbaijan and Spain. Azerbaijani-Spanish ties that were constantly the center of attention of national leader Heydar Aliyev, are successfully developing today under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev", - said Azerbaijani Defence Minister.
The meeting noted the importance of expansion of Azerbaijani-Spanish relations in all directions, including the contractual and legal framework in the military sphere, and expressed confidence that the negotiations will contribute to the development of ties and strengthening of friendly relations between the armed forces of the two countries.
