HASANOV ZAKIR ASGAR OGLU
MINISTER OF DEFENCE OF THE REPUBLIC OF AZERBAIJAN
Colonel General Hasanov Zakir Asgar oglu was born in the region of Astara on 6 June 1959.
He graduated from the Military Lyceum named after Jamshid Nakchivanski in 1976.
He graduated from the Baku Higher Combined Arms Command School in 1980, and from that year through 1985 he served in the Soviet troops located in Germany.
He continued his military service in the Siberian Military District from 1985 to 1993.
He completed the Higher Military Academic Courses of the USSR Armed Forces' General Staff for the period from 1986 to 1987.
He served in the Border Guard Forces of the Ministry of National Security of the Republic of Azerbaijan in 1993-2003.
He was appointed as a Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs – the Commander of Internal Troops by Presidential Decree No.1130 dated 17.01.2003, promoted to the rank of Major General by Presidential Ordinance No.869 dated May 17, 2003 and to the rank of Lieutenant General by Presidential Decree No.802 dated May 6, 2005.
He was engaged in combat operations over Nagorno-Karabakh, including the Horadiz operation.
He has received numerous awards and medals for commendable fulfillment of duties. He was awarded with the Medal for “Distinguished Service in Defending the State Borders” by the National Security Minister's Order dated 15.12.1998; Medal for “Distinguished Military Service” by Presidential Decree dated 16.08.2002; the “Azerbaijani Flag” Order by Presidential Decree No.298 dated 30.06.2004, the Medal for “Distinguished Service for Homeland” by Presidential Decree dated 11.03.2008 and the “Azerbaijani Flag” Order by Presidential Decree dated 19.04.2016.
Since 22 October 2013 he has been appointed as Minister of Defence of the Republic of Azerbaijan, and promoted to the rank of Colonel General.
He is married and has three children.
