In accordance with the requirements of the Decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan "On improving the training of reserve officers for the Armed Forces of the Republic of Azerbaijan" dated May 25, 2000, a Military Medical Faculty was established at the Azerbaijan Medical University in order to provide the Armed Forces of the Republic of Azerbaijan with professional military doctors. The term of study at the faculty is 2 years. Since August 2000, male students, who have graduated from the 4th year of the medical and preventive, pediatric, and dental faculties of the Azerbaijan Medical University, have been admitted to this faculty on the basis of selection.
Advanced professional training courses operate at the Military Medical Faculty in order to ensure the principle of continuity of training of medical service officers. In accordance with the requirements of the Law of the Republic of Azerbaijan "On Education", in the 2011-2012 academic year, the Military Medical Faculty of the Azerbaijan Medical University started teaching residents in 11 specialties to specialize military doctors.
