Azerbaijani Defense Minister, Colonel General Zakir Hasanov met with the delegation headed by First Deputy Minister of Defence of the Russian Federation – Chief of General Staff of the Armed Forces, General of the Army Valery Gerasimov on February 16.
After welcoming the guests, Minister of Defence said that the cooperation between the two countries is based on friendly relations, mutual trust and these relationships are constantly developing.
Referring to the military-political situation in the region, Colonel General Z.Hasanov noted that the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict is the main threat to the regional security. The Minister stressed the importance of resolving the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict within the norms of international law.
General of the Army V.Gerasimov also noted that the relations between our countries have historical roots and Azerbaijan is an important partner of Russia. He also emphasized the importance of organization of mutual meetings between military representatives at the highest level in terms of expansion of bilateral relations, as well as military and military-technical cooperation.
Thanking Azerbaijan for the organization and participation in the contest "Sea Cup - 2017", which will be held in the framework of the " International Army games - 2017", the guest noted that the holding of such events serves for increasing the combat readiness of military personnel, exchange of experience and establishment of friendly relations between the servicemen.
Then the sides discussed the current state of the military and military-technical cooperation, prospects of development of relations in the field of military education and military medicine, as well as exchanged views on regional issues of mutual interest.
General of the Army V.Gerasimov expressed deep gratitude to the leadership of Azerbaijan for the excellent hospitality and organization of bilateral meetings with US Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Joseph Dunford in Baku.
