FIRST DEPUTY MINISTER OF DEFENSE OF THE REPUBLIC OF AZERBAIJAN –

CHIEF OF THE GENERAL STAFF OF THE AZERBAIJAN ARMY

 

 

 

Colonel General Valiyev Karim Tofig oglu was born in Baku city on February 9, 1961.
He graduated from the Baku Higher Combined Arms Command School with Honours in 1982.
In 1982-1990, he was serving as a cadet platoon commander, Assistant Chief of the Educational Department, and Senior Assistant Chief of the Educational Department.
From 1990 to 1994, he studied in extramural type at the M.V. Frunze Military Academy.
Since 1992, he served as a Deputy Chief of the Educational Department, Brigade Commander, Deputy Front Commander, Deputy Defense Minister for Combat Operations, Army Corps Commander, Chief of the Military Scientific Center, Chief of the Military Strategy Department of the Defense Planning in the Armed Forces of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
He participated in combat operations for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
He has received numerous awards and medals for commendable fulfillment of duties. He has been awarded with the “Azerbaijan Flag” Order by Presidential Decree dated 01.01.1994, the Medal “For Motherland” by Presidential Decree dated 24.06.2005, the Medal for Distinguished Military Service by Presidential Decree dated 25.06.2012, and the “Zafar” Order (Victory) by Presidential Decree dated 09.12.2020, the Medal "For the liberation of Jabrayil" by Presidential Decree dated 24.12.2020, the Medal "For the liberation of Aghdam" by Presidential Decree dated 29.12.2020, the Medal "For the liberation of Gubadli" by Presidential Decree dated 29.12.2020, the "Karabakh" Order by Presidential Decree dated 07.11.2023.
On 14.05.2014, he was appointed to the position of Deputy Defense Minister for Personnel – Chief of the Main Department for Personnel by the Order of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Mr. Ilham Aliyev.
On 20.02.2019, he was appointed to the position of Deputy Defense Minister – Chief of the Main Department for Personnel by the Order of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Mr. Ilham Aliyev.
From 23.07.2021, he has been appointed to the position of the First Deputy Minister of Defense of the Republic of Azerbaijan – Chief of the General Staff of the Azerbaijan Army by the Order of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Mr. Ilham Aliyev.
He is married and has two children.
